ybdg x cool change
In collaboration with Cool Change Contemporary
Cool Change and Vessel were pleased to present a one-night-only performance by experimental dance collective YOUNG BOY DANCING GROUP (Zurich), as part of their 2025 ‘Spiraling Tour’ of Australia and Indonesia, at The Naval Store (Walyalup/Fremantle). A cathartic undoing, somewhere between dance, ritual, and collapse.
Self-described as a “versatile host embracing an ever-changing network of dancers”, YBDG is known for its volatile, genre-defying performances that ignite and disintegrate in real time. Their work has been described as “immersive studies in physical intensity, sensuality, and extreme absurdity” (Spike Magazine).
YBDG is directed by Manuel Scheiwiller, in close collaboration with Maria Metsalu and Nicolas Roses. For the Boorloo/Perth appearance of their Australian debut, Scheiwiller and Metsalu will work with four local performers (TBA) over an intensive rehearsal period to develop a “ballet of structured improvisation”, both mercurial and modular.
Their past performances have included Schinkel Pavilion (Berlin), Performance Space (NYC), Perrrformat (Zurich), Rhizome (NYC), OCD Chinatown (NYC), Mendes Wood DM (Sao Paulo), O’Flaherty’s (NYC), Roskilde Festival, Kunstraum (London), Yvonne Lambert (Berlin), and the 2015 Venice Biennale, amongst other venues.
